March for Women's Lives
The Bixby Program in Population and Reproductive Health
subsidized a delegation of 20 UCLA School of Public
Health students and faculty to attend the March for
Women's Lives, held in Washington, DC, on April 25,
2004. The March for Women's Lives was led by seven organizing
groups: American Civil Liberties Union, Black Women's
Health Imperative, Feminist Majority, NARAL Pro-Choice
America, National Latina Institute for Reproductive
Health, National Organization for Women and Planned
Parenthood Federation of America. Over one million people
are estimated to have participated in the event. The
purpose of the March was to advocate for greater reproductive
freedom and to urge lawmakers to guarantee that women's
right to the full range of reproductive health services.
Speakers at the March stressed the need for constant
vigilance to ensure that gains in reproductive rights
are not reversed, both domestically and internationally.
By participating in the March, UCLA students were able
to witness and be a part of "advocacy in action".
